If you have ever been bullied in your life, The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larsen will especially strike a chord within your heart. I was completely touched and moved to tears at times, yet smiling like crazy at other moments, a feat I’m not sure how Susin Nielsen manages, but she truly does! I laughed. I cried. National French Fries Day

Crinkle, shoestring, waffle-cut, curly, spicy, or slathered with cheese and gravy, French fries are awesome! That’s why we’re celebrating National French Fries Day with the French Fry King.

Who is the French Fry King? Well it all started with  a sausage dog named Roger. He is most definitely not the kind of dog that would chase the mail courier, chew on bicycle tires, or bark at every car that drives goes by. That’s boring!

Roger spends a great deal of time dreaming about his future. He starts up a food truck selling French fries and soon becomes a worldwide phenomenon. But does he find true happiness when he’s crowned the French Fry King?

You can find out by entering our giveaway contest to win a copy of the book! Leave a comment below telling us how you like your fries. Do you like them with ketchup? Salsa? Curry? Vinegar and pepper? We’ll pick a winner on Monday, July 16, 2012. Rules can be viewed here.

UPDATE: A winner has been randomly drawn!

The French Fry King
Written and illustrated by Rogé
Hardcover | Ages 4-7 | 32 pages
ISBN: 978-1-77049-350-6

“…the story and the illustrations are appealingly fantastical, with tall-tale exaggerations and witty interactions with satisfied customers. The illustrations have a chic, urban flair with a muted palette and some hints at the author/illustrator’s French-Canadian background, such as a few signs in both English and French…. Roger’s story conveys the subtle and salutary message that material achievement and fame does not necessarily include love and companionship, and a shared venture may be sweeter than solitary success.” – Kirkus Reviews

“It’s hard to resist a sausage dog with big ideas…. Along with a charming story about this irresistible protagonist, Rogé’s painted folk-art-inspired illustrations take us into Roger the sausage dog’s world. And what a world it is…. A pleasure to look at and a pleasure to read for parents, the six and under set, and aficionados of sausage dogs everywhere.” – Montreal Review of Books
