2015 Baker’s Dozen

We’re known for our love of bakery treats here at Tundra, so we couldn’t be more pleased when we saw that one of our titles was chosen for the Pennsylvania Center for the Book’s Baker’s Dozen. Congratulations to Teagan White!

“What child doesn’t love an adventure? This book allows the reader to share a journey through the months of the year with a variety of friendly critters as travel companions. Each beautifully illustrated page features a letter of the alphabet and depicts a simple yet imaginative activity, from ‘building a bridge of branches’ in January to setting ‘ships to sail in the stream’ in September. Readers will enjoy exploring the rich details on each page and discussing what adventures they might get into next. The dust jacket, or paper cover, also contains a poster of the critters on the move!” – The Pennsylvania Center for the Book

The Pennsylvania Center for the Book works with hundreds of children’s books each year while preparing booklists, activities, and curriculum materials. The center consider these 13 titles—a Baker’s Dozen—to be the very best picture books published in 2014. The books fulfill the goals of family literacy programs across the nation: to create lifelong readers and lovers of books and to start with the youngest audience—preschool children. Thank you to the Selection Committee for all their hard work!

Powell’s Books: Our Favorite New Favorites of 2014

Every week, the staff at Powell’s Books gather together a small pile of newly released titles that we agree should be on everyone’s radar. They deem these titles their New Favorites (check out their recent picks here). Now that the year is winding down, they thought they would take a look back at some of the standouts, in case you missed them the first time around.

Adventures with Barefoot Critters is on their list of Favorite New Favorites of 2014!!!

Julia and Simca are two young friends who agree that you can never use too much butter – and that it is best to be a child forever. Sharing a love of cooking and having no wish to turn into big, busy people who worry too much and dawdle too little, they decide to create a feast for growing and staying young. A playful, scrumptious celebration of the joy of eating, the importance of never completely growing up and mastering the art of having a good time, Julia, Child is a fictional tale loosely inspired by the life and spirit of the very real Julia Child — a story that should be taken with a grain of salt and a generous pat of butter.
