Our Associate Director, Kids Marketing & Publicity: Meet Sylvia!

Hi, I’m Sylvia (she/her), the new-ish Associate Director for Marketing and Publicity at Penguin Random House Canada for the young reader imprints. I had my start in publishing at WLU Press as a Marketing Intern before joining Tundra Books, where I went from Publicity Intern, to Publicist, to Publishing Coordinator. That’s right, I had a short stint in editorial where I learned to proofread, copyedit, write editorial letters, among other things. Knowing that my heart was in marketing, I moved to Penguin Random House Canada as a Marketing and Publicity Coordinator before becoming a Manager. Today, I am so happy to still be working on the Tundra list in my new role overseeing a fantastic and creative team.

  1. Despite everyone thinking otherwise, my Zoom and Teams background is actually fake. (It’s a photo of my bookshelves!)
  2. I used to live in Hong Kong and Florida, but Toronto is home.

  4. I used to be a competitive swimmer, I was pretty good at the butterfly.

Our Senior Associate, Kids Marketing & Publicity: Meet Sam!

Hello friends! I’m Sam (she/her), the senior marketing & publicity associate at Tundra Books!

I’ve been with Penguin Random House Canada for just over five years – some of you may recognize me because I used to run the PenguinTeenCa social media accounts. I work on publicity for everything from board books to YA and am slowly figuring out our presence at tradeshows across North America – maybe I’ll see you around some time!

Outside of work, I like getting tattoos and going to concerts . . . sometimes on the same day (those are the best days!). 

5 Random Facts About Me

  1. My favorite band is The Maine and I talk about them ALL THE TIME (including at work!).
  2. I double majored in English and French in university and started learning Spanish with Duolingo in 2021.
  3. I love traveling and usually build my vacations around a concert (or two).
  4. I once put together a thread of YA books x Bastille songs for fun and now it’s my favorite yearly tradition (stay tuned for a new one in July!).
  5. I’m a big fan of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and I collect different editions.

Our New Marketing Specialist: Meet Monika!

I’ve been with Penguin Random House for a little over a year and have found a home here with Tundra. I love words and stories (I know loving words sounds weird, but have you ever just heard a word and gone, woah…. That’s a good word. Like “mellifluous” how pretty is that)

When I’m not working there’s many MANY things I could be doing as my hobby is having hobbies. Just some things: Listening to music, watching the same comfort shows over and over again, reading obvs, baking, writing, taking photos or finding weird and niche movies to make my whole personality until the next one comes around.
