  1. I have met Robert Munsch…he was performing at our city’s arts center and had a meet & greet after the show…heavensent1@yahoo dotcom

  2. Wonderful prize pack! First author I ever met was Lois Lowry. I’d just started working with the library and she was in Calgary doing school and library visits. I remember her telling me about coming in on the plane and how she wrote a story idea on a napkin….just. wow. She was a pretty amazing author to have meet.

Met many more children and young adult authors since then and am always struck with the passion for working with, writing for kids in them and their publishers/editors. Tundra is no exception. Thanks for this (and yeah, lol, had to have a bit of a gush there:)

  3. You know, I don’t think I’ve ever met a children’s author. I will have to remedy that. I need to work on my children’s week post! Thanks for the reminder.

  4. The first and only author I have ever met is Kathleen Macmillan. Her book is called Bluebeary and our copy is signed to my daughter. We met her at a reading on BC day as she is a local resident also. My daughter treasures this book and I was so pleased to see her love of books grow from that day. Thanks!

  5. I have to admit that I am envious of my children. My daughter sat on Robert Munsch’s lap while he told a story at their day care. Both of them met a number of authors who visited at their school. Wow. I was so in awe of them. I did meet 5 authors last year at The Museum in Kitchener, Ontario for a book event hosted by Words Worth Books. I am much better at emailing authors and thanking them for writing such wonderful books. Most authors are very generous with their time and send me one or more responses. Somehow they have the ability to make me feel like a personal friend via their kind words.

  6. Happy Children’s Book Week!
We have quite a few authors come to our library, but usually I miss most of them as I am on the ref desk at that time. I did get to meet Jacob Berkowitz and Catherine Rondina. We just finished our life long reading event, but I missed all those fabulous authors. I have also met a few at OLA conference. (and gotten signed books from them) like Robert Paul Weston, Lesley Livingston, Terry Griggs and Patricia Storms (who did visit RHPL). I went to a book launch and signing for Linda Granfield. I have met Andrea Beck recently and she is friends with my aunt.

  8. I’ve never met a children’s author.
    I subscribe by email.

  9. I meet Dandi Daley Mackall when she came to our school and read to all the kids and gave everyone a free book. It was great because some of our kids never get to own their own book.

  10. Hi! I haven’t met many so far although I have talked to several authors online such as Janet Halfmann. I have met Sheila Walsh of “How to be God’s Little Princess” at a Women of Faith conference several years ago. She is such a gracious kind lady. I’ve also talked to Don Freeman’s son (Beady Bear and Cordoroy) by email about doing a author event this summer sometime. It’s been so much fun growing and meeting all kinds of authors this last year while starting up my Family Literacy Blog! Thanks for joining us in the 1st Annual Children’s Book Week!

  12. The only children’s author I have ever met was Deirdre Kessler – a lovely lady.

  13. My memory is so horrible, I honestly can’t remember the first writer I met when I was a child. I remember going to an Author Go Round in Calif and met several. Will have to see if I can find out who they were. Now I have my own littles to read too 🙂

  14. I haven’t had a chance yet to meet any children’s authors. We’re in the process of adopting two boys so I am just now getting to reading and reviewing children’s books. What fun!

  15. I have never met an author of a children’s book . If I could, I would have loved to have met Dr. Seuss himself. Since he has passed, I think the next author I would love to meet is Robert Munsch! (sp?) my kids love his books

  16. The first children’s author I ever met was Martyn Godfrey (and I was surprised to see Elizabeth’s comment above!). He came to my elementary school and spoke to the intermediate grades. I was a bit younger than that at the time so I don’t remember it very well, but because my reading level was fairly high (i.e. I got bored and caused trouble in class) they sent me to the library for his talk too.

  17. I remember Robert Munsch coming to our school to tell stories. I LOVE his books so it was such an awesome day for me.

  19. I met the author of the Clifford books, Norman Bridwell, when I was in first grade. He came to my school and he even signed a drawing of Clifford I made. I was obsessed with Clifford, I had all of his books. Honestly, I still love him 🙂 It was an amazing day!

  21. I met my first author when I was a teenager, she was an older women who wrote a Christian series for elementary aged children, and her account of becoming an author was inspiring! Ended up in bed with illness, typing with one hand on her side, to realize her dream!

  22. What a grteat set of books!!! I, unfortunately, never got to meet any of my favorite childhood authors. We live in a really small town and when I was a kid, authors just didn’t come down this way.

As an adult, I’ve NEVER met any authors…..I missed a signing of 2 of my favorite authors because I found out about it the day it happened (everything is hours away from where I live)….I would have been there in a SPLIT second!
