Would You

Ages 9-12 years
HC ISBN 978-0-88776-816-3
TR ISBN 978-1-77049-223-3
eBook 978-1-77049-022-2
“The opening chapters give little hints of the intensity of Jocelyn’s…exquisitely honed novel…. Although the plot line sounds like that of a standard weeper, the author resists the urge to magnify emotions. Natalie reacts honestly, neither beautifully nor nobly…. The light touch with which Jocelyn handles her difficult material is best seen when Claire is declared brain-dead and taken off life support: the humanity in the author’s treatment affords the readers a sense both of grief and of peace.” – Starred Review, Publishers Weekly

  1. Wow what a fun Blog Hop! 🙂 Just in time for the warm weather. I always ejoyed eating ice cream sandwiches in the summer (a fave that my Mom and I both love). PS I’m dying to read more by Marthe Jocelyn (after having read Scribbling Women). 🙂

  2. I love a good drumstick or lemon chill during the hot texas heat!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  3. Our favourite summer treat is iced cappuccino and the kids just love icecream floats.

  4. Fudgecicles (sp?). But only b/c you made me choose one! Ice cream, of course, and frozen fruit pops also are great when it’s hot. 🙂

  5. You drive down the Bedford Highway you’re going to come to a greasy food outlet known as THE CHICKENBURGER. You can’t miss it. It has a giant chicken poked up like some kind of befeathered Godzilla. They’re famous for what they call a chickenburger, (naturally) – a mittful of chicken meat drowning in gravy and crammed between the lips of a fluffy fresh hamburger bun. I prefer their cheeseburgers myself. They’re made out of beef that hasn’t forgotten how to moo. Patties that feel as if somebody hand-patted them just this morning. Loads of onions and fried to a crackly goodness. Best thing you imagine.

Only we were talking about favourite frozen treats. For me, it is the tall cold milkshake that they make at the Chickenburger. Cold and delicious, whizzed up in one of those 1950-style shakemakers that make a whirring sound like a small cropdusting biplane taking off on a hot summer day. Thick and creamy and it goes down like a whole meal in a glass and you just can’t help but grin when it hits your belly.

    Tastes like more.
